Min Shi has practised in family wealth succession for many years, with deep experience in trusts and in gift- and estate-tax planning. Her work covers wills, probate proceedings, trusts, pre- and postnuptial property agreements, Medicaid asset-protection trusts and special needs trusts.
Since founding her own firm she has guided individuals and families who have come to the United States to settle or start businesses through a legal system that is unfamiliar to them — carrying family wealth across generations for high-net-worth clients, and equally putting property agreements, trusts and wills in place for ordinary households, or establishing special needs and Medicaid trusts for families supporting a dependent with a disability. Clients consistently single out how plainly she explains the law and how quickly and personally she responds.
Before opening her firm, Min spent several years in the New York office of Latham & Watkins LLP, one of the leading firms in the United States, working on corporate finance and capital markets, and then joined the securities regulation and legal compliance group in the legal department at Bloomberg.
Min graduated first in her class from Nanjing University School of Law with an LL.B., and was admitted without examination to its graduate programme, where she earned an LL.M. in economic law. She went on to take her J.D. at the University of Virginia School of Law. She practises in both Chinese and English. Min is admitted to the New York and New Jersey bars and has passed the PRC National Judicial Examination.
